Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum
Mahant Ghasidas was previously the king of Rajnandgaon. He sanctioned the construction of the memorial museum and so it was named after him. There are many sculptures, guns, and swords on display in this museum. You can also view 5000 years old cooking utensils in this museum. You can view the history of Chhattisgarh through the various sculptures and relics put on display over here. You can have a short tour of the natural history of the place in the form of a hundred minute archaeological show.
Dhoodhadhari Monastery and Temple
The temple is located alongside Maharajbadh River. It was built during the mid 17th century by the famous King Jaitsingh. Delicate carvings and murals can be found in this temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Rama. It is filled with lots of devotees throughout the year. There is also a monastery which is dedicated to Swami Balbhadra Das. Since he survived on only milk or doodh, this place is named after this concept.
The Mahamaya Temple is located on the old fort side of Raipur on the banks of Kharoon River. During the festival of Navratri, this place is filled with devotees and tourists to worship goddess Mahamaya or Goddess Durga. Here it is believed that the goddess is showered with many powers of other Gods like Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. When the temple is lighted during the festivals, it is a beautiful sight to behold.
King Brahmadei is said to have constructed this temple. He was the emperor of Kalchuri during the 1404 AD. It is a great destination and it is buzzing with tourists throughout the year. The people who visit the place are engulfed in the calmness and the serenity of the lake. It is the perfect weekend getaway for those who just love to spend some time amidst the serenity and the calmness. It takes one away from the hustle and bustle of the daily drudgery.
Vivekanand Sarovar or Burha Talab
It is the best place for a picnic with family and friends. It was named after Swami Vivekananda. Many years ago, he used to meditate over here. It is a great place where one can seek calm and peace and that was the reason Swami Vivekanand spent his time here. A 37 feet high statue of Vivekananda is also present in this lake. It has been installed just beside the lake. One can even try boating and other activities here. The best time to visit this place is between October and March.
